This workshop will examine the status of the death penalty in the so-called “modern” era, from 1976, when capital punishment was allowed to resume, to the present. We will examine currents trends in the death penalty, both legal and political, and will discuss what trends to expect in the next few years, as new justices are appointed to the courts and as the subject of criminal justice reform assumes a higher profile among both progressive communities and the public.
