The assembly of the Illinois State Bar Association has voted to support abolishing the death penalty in the state.
California commission recommends limiting crimes eligible for capital punishment or sentencing inmates to life without parole instead.
The Supreme Court ruled, 5 to 4, on Wednesday that sentencing someone to death for raping a child is unconstitutional, assuming that the victim is not killed.
